NEW MEXICO – An animal shelter suddenly arrival of new residents a cat with an unusual weight. The owner of this camp was surprised, because a cat weighing 18 kilograms.
Meow, the cat’s name, appear larger than other cats in general. 2-year-old cat weighs achieved 18 kg.
Cat owner 87-year-old, can not seem to care anymore it’s a big cat. He was immediately handed it to animal shelters Santa Fe, New Mexico, United States (U.S.).
“When you see, this cat is obviously suffering from obesity. Although it looks cute, cats are still too fat,” said the owner of the Santa Fe shelter, Ben Swan, told Emirates 24/7, Monday (23/04/2012).
In Meow’s case, the shelter is awaiting blood test results to make sure he doesn’t have any additional health problems.
Shelter veterinarian Jennifer Steketee said the idea is for Meow to gradually lose weight by eating a special diet. He has already lost a couple of pounds since being turned in.
Steketee said the dangers of feline obesity are not much different than they are for humans – extra pressure on the heart and joints.
Swan said all the extra weight makes it tough for Meow to play. He had little interest in the super-sized toy mouse the shelter gave him when he first arrived and he couldn’t squeeze much more than his head into the carpeted ring attached to the shelter’s scratching post.
“He’s very sweet. He’s doing everything a normal cat would do except he loses his breath and tires easily,” Swan said. “We’re seeing what we can to do help him.”
Now the owner of the shelter’s plan to implement the diet for Meow. They want a normal body conditions as other cats.
Despite having a heavy body, Meow is not the record holder for heaviest cat in the world. The record is currently held by Himmy, Australia cat that weighs 21.3 kg.
