Babies born a few weeks earlier tend to have difficulties when entering the school. Children born before 37 weeks of age are also potential problems, including academic growth and health.

Throughout the full term is generally 37 to 41 weeks. One study found that, compared to babies born after 41 weeks, children born before 37 weeks of age 33 percent higher had trouble reading when she was eight years old.

The same study also found that children born before 38 weeks of age to worse results when working on math tests than children who were born two weeks later.

Researchers and other experts say, the definition of prematurity should be reconsidered. The study also questioned the practice of accelerating the proliferation of births by caesarean section for the convenience of the mother who feels exhausted and in pain, not for medical reasons.

“Pregnant women should be careful before choosing baby’s birth,” said lead researcher Dr.. Kimberly Noble of Columbia University Medical Center as reported by the Daily Mail.

The study included 128 thousand children in New York, including children from disadvantaged families. Third grader who was eight years old and was born at 37 weeks gestation, 2.3 percent had lower language skills – compared to just 0.9 percent for children born at 41 weeks of age.

“The study results are very important and predict academic achievement in the future,” said professor and sociologist of Michigan State University Naomi Breslau.

The study also found that six-year-old boy has an IQ and a lower body weight when born at the age of 37 and 38 weeks of gestation than those born heavier at the age of 41 weeks.
